ISHIK UNIVERSITY An ISO granted university with high international standards in Erbil.
A delegation of the Public Affairs section of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad visited Ishik University on Sunday. Anthony A. Deaton, from the delegation, said that they are not only visiting a local institution, but also they are visiting foreigner investors in Iraq as well. The delegation was welcomed by Ishik Universities’ president Prof. Dr. Ahmet Öztaş. During the visit, President Öztaş gave general information about the university and their successes in the Kurdistan Regional Government.
President Öztaş emphasized that Ishik is one of the best universities in the KRG, in which the education is given in English language. Öztaş said that they are supplying all equipment required for education and trying hard to increase the quality of the education at university. Within this context, all the classes have been equipped with the latest technology devices; there exist application laboratories and experienced and specialized lecturers in their fields. The university president said that they have the biggest and well equipped-dental hospital not only in the KRG, but also in Iraq.
Accompanied by Mr. Dler A. Hamad, Cultural Affairs Office in the U.S Consulate General in Erbil, Mr. Deaton asked about foreigner students’ percentage, recognition of the university by the Iraqi government and other difficulties that the university is facing. He also expressed that he will be glad to see cooperation between Ishik and U.S universities. By doing so, the experience Ishik has will arise in this way, too.
The university president Öztaş also said that they have applied for several programs in the U.S, but because of the conflicts in the Middle East, the delegations from the State’s universities hesitate to come to the region and visit them.
After the meeting, the delegation was given a tour on campus and when they were informed on the project model of the university, they mentioned that this is a great acquisition for KRG and Iraq. Later on, President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Öztaş gave presents as souvenir from Ishik.
